Change on the Horizon

Well, change is on the horizon again for me. These past weeks have been full of friends and amazing moments where you realize that it is what life is all about. I was given this letter today and think that everyone should read it:

If I had my life to live again, I'd dare to make more mistakes next time. I'd relax. I'd limber up. I'd be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances, I would take more trips, I would climb mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice-cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles but fewer imaginary ones. You see, I'm one fo those people who was sensible and sane, hour after hour, day after day.

Oh, I've had my moments. If I had to do it over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else- just moments, one after another, instead of living so many hears ahead of each day. I've been one of those people who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I could do it again, I would travel lighter then I have.

If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances, I would ride more merry-go-rounds, I would pick more daisies, I would take more risks.

Nadine Stair (aged 102)

Everyone will come to a point where they can take the safe path, or take a leap of faith.

Take the leap.

I just did.

I will be better for it.

Thank you Ruth for this.

PS - I know this isn't a makeup post, but now I will have time to really dig into this. More to come.

Inspiration: Sherry Vanstone

There are times in your life that are turning points. One for me was when I walked into the MAC counter in Edmonton, Alberta in 2004. That was the day I met Sherry Vanstone.

I think some people are put in your life for a reason. Sherry was put in mine to push my love of makeup. She was the first 'MAC Girl' I had met who was completely inspiring. Here is a beautiful tattooed woman who was amazing at what she did and inspired others to love makeup. She helped me pick out my items but little did she know how much of an impact she would have on me.

The counter in Kelowna opened a few months later and by August, I had been hired on and started as a 'MAC Girl'. But never did I forget about Sherry.

Sherry, thank you. You continue to inspire me. You continue to make me smile. I wish so many good things for you.

Preparing for Tomorrow

Tomorrow is one of those days you look forward to. A quick project with a group of talented people.

Tomorrow I'm working with Teaghan McGinnis.

Teaghan is one of those people who's work you've followed and have been pumped on, but haven't had a chance to work with. A chance meeting in a random work situation, funny conversation, but this is the first chance to actually work on something. So, this is a project I'm really looking forward to.

It's refreshing to be able to work on projects like this when you don't know what the end result will be, but you know it will great.

Today will consist of preparing my kit for tomorrow and hashing out the last details of the look I want to put on the model. Nothing better then that.

More to come.

Paige

Over the last year, I've had the pleasure of building my friendship with Paige Matis. (Previously Munro) This woman has taught me so much and listened to much of my ranting when it came to feeling restless and lost.

Not only is she a beautiful spirit, she is a gorgeous woman who allowed me to join her on her wedding to do her makeup. Here is the link to her wedding photos. (By Rhys Albrecht)

Thank you for all you've done for me Paige. You are truly wonderful.

I'm Back.

For years now, I've been really discouraged and have had really no want to get back into doing makeup. Whether it was from working a job that changed from creativity driven to numbers driven, or if it was so many times opportunities seemed to come up and then vanish. The love for the art had gone and so did the drive to succeed and excel.

But all of this has changed.

I don't know why, and I don't know where it came from, but excitement is back. Opportunities are coming out of the woodwork and I really am excited to see where this may be going.

I love makeup.

I always have.

I've found it again.

When I stop and think about what it is about makeup I love, I'm reminded of the times girls have cried in my chair. The times when they've seen themselves differently then normal and feel truly beautiful. Now don't get me wrong, I by no means say I have some godly talent that makes me transform peoples faces. What I am saying is that I have been given an amazing opportunity to really let people see how beautiful they truly are, inside and out.

I love working with people.

I love meeting people.

I always have.

I'm excited to work on projects. To work on weddings. To have a chance to make something beautiful. Art. Photographs. Wedding days.

Please note, the art that I love most is quite dark. So if you see something I've done that is dark and maybe not your thing, don't think I'll be painting your face the same. I, by no means, will be looking to paint you up like a freak and send you out (Unless you ask for that). I want to make you feel like the best you you can be. As cheesy as that sounds.

So yes. I'm encouraged. I'm excited. I love makeup. And I want you to, too.
